String Quartet No. 7: ...dancing the skies

About

2 movements, 23 minutes

A substantial new work which takes as its theme the challenges and delights of flight. The second movement is a set of variations on the melody written for my 2003 setting of High Flight (see and hear this at Far Better Things, Clip 5). The variations in this new piece take the listener by degrees from a romantic F minor to an ethereal microtonality!

Before the coronavirus pandemic intervened, this work was scheduled for performance by the Edinburgh Quartet at St Margaret’s Braemar and at the University of St Andrews, with recording by Delphian Records. Details of revised plans for performance and recording will appear here in due course.
